Picturing Time

A competition brief set by The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. Using any medium we wished apart from anything 3D we were to portray time in any way we wished. Using photography I decided to portray time as broken. Inspired a little by steampunk and some found cogs from various watches I took a series of macro shots of the cogs. To give a more personal touch and to give the cogs a story of their own I created my own poem to go alongside them to stir up the viewer's imagination and emotion.

Poem:
Time is broken,
The cog's that once turned now lay still,
Silent,
Once working together,
Now scattered

Time is broken,
Once they flowed along with time,
Now time passes them by,
Forgotten

Time is broken,
Never moving out of place,
They journey,
Meeting many on their way,
Leaving and being left behind

Who did they meet?
Who did they leave?
What memories do they hold?
Will their time turn again?
Or will their time remain,
Broken.
